Simona Quartucci, Italian and resident in Barcelona for 30 years, is an actress, dancer, stage creator and producer. She is multilingual in Italian, Spanish, English and Catalan.
Born into a family of three generations of prestigious stage artists and scientists, as a child she watched with fascination both actors on stage and spermatozoa and cells in laboratory microscopes. This duality marked her path: researching, deepening and broadening visions. She began her career at the age of 6 at the Teatro dell’Opera di Genova and since then she has been immersed in the fusion of different artistic languages in multiple theatrical, television and audiovisual spaces. This has led her to become a multifaceted artist, with a career that ranges from dance and text theatre to performance and dance theatre.
The support and attention of the press and the public have been essential for the growth, evolution and confirmation of her artistic career. Cinema is her most recent love, to which she has devoted herself with the rigour, passion and professionalism that characterise her. She graduated from the Folkwang Universität der Künste, directed by Pina Bausch, after having trained as a dancer studying multiple techniques in Europe. In addition, she graduated from Javier Galitó Cava’s Meisner Technique Programme at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York and took courses with leading teachers such as Jean Paul Denizón (P. Brook), G. Byron (L. Strasberg), Juan Carlos Corazza and at the Guildhall School of Drama in London, thanks to an EEC scholarship. She has also participated in Masterclasses given by Rachael Adler (Neighborhood Playhouse in New York / Waterfront Playhouse in Berkeley, California).
She works as an actress, dancer and performer for theatre directors, choreographers and visual artists such as Mauro Bolognini, Dominique Chante, Andrés Morte, Marco Baliani, Carlo Quartucci, Sharoo Keradmand, Joseph Fontano, Adriana Borriello, Carol Dilley, Vicenç Saez, Marina Abramovich, Joan Jonas and Laurence Weiner, among others. He has performed at the Biennale di Venezia, Wiener Festwochen, Edinburgh Festival, Hebbel Theatre in Berlin, as well as in various theatres in Italy and Spain. In film she has starred in the independent feature film El informe de Irene by Patricia Cabello, collaborated in Influenced by Fernanda Rossi, as well as in numerous short films directed by talented national and international filmmakers, including Nacho Spínola, Džiuginta Gabriel?, Hayas Ismail Khayat and Alejandro Correa (Acdisfilms).
He founded the Rasatabula Company, which received grants and co-productions from various Catalan institutions and theatres, with which he has created and directed numerous dance-theatre, physical theatre and text theatre shows, achieving an excellent reception from both critics and audiences. Among his most outstanding works are Un día perfecto para los perros, El pèl a l’ou, Piel de Arena, Sola Mente Piel, la última Batalla, Fruit, El Segreter and El millor per als nostres fills.
Her dedication to Art in all its facets has taught her the importance of commitment to her own emotional integrity and that of others. She works as a facilitator in processes of self-knowledge and change through Authentic Movement, Integrative Bodywork, Gestalt and Enneatype Psychology (SAT Claudio Naranjo).
